Craft Potters Nelson Inc. is a group of about 40 people who enjoy meeting and making pots. We operate from our own premises, which includes a Gallery with a variety of quality domestic and sculptural pots for sale, in Ranzau Road, Hope near Richmond (Nelson).

Our equipment is extensive, including electric kilns, gas, wood and Raku kilns.

We are a friendly group who enjoy social occasions; we also encourage new members.

Weekly classes with experienced tutors are offered from February to December for 4 terms.  These take place on Wednesday mornings and Thursday evenings and may be attended by members or non members on a casual basis.

We arrange weekend workshops three to four times a year for various subjects, e.g. throwing large pots, decorating with brush and/or sgraffiti.

Open Day

Early January we hold an Open Day when people can have a go at making something from clay.

Diploma in Ceramic Arts

This 2-year full-time or 4 years part-time course provides a unique opportunity to gain a Diploma in Ceramic Arts.  It is offered through Otago Polytechnic as a distance course at our premises at Craft Potters in Nelson.

This course,  for those wishing to develop and advance pottery skills while completing a diploma,  is instructed by our resident professional potter Alan Ballard,  with support provided in areas such as Art History, Glaze and Drawing through Otago's online programme.
