During the past twelve months, the Cromwell Pottery Club has carried out numerous firings in the electric kiln and our homemade Raku kilns.
In addition, we have exhibited at the Cromwell Combined Society of Arts and Crafts annual exhibition which was held over the Easter weekend. This is a large event for a small, rural town of about 4,000 people but because of our location in the Central Otago/Otago Lakes tourist area, we have plenty of visitors which helps to make the event worthwhile.
Our club rooms are adjacent to the Old Cromwell Historical Precinct and that encourages visitors to wander by and into out facility where they can see potters at work. We also offer items for sale at the same place.
Recently, we were fortunate enough to be instructed by Neil Grant in the making of brushes which we can use for decorating our pottery. This took place at the home of Lake Hawea potter, Di Turnbull. The following day, Neil came to Cromwell and helped us with the first firing of our gas kiln. Neil is an instructor in ceramics at the School of Art, Otago Polytechnic, Dunedin campus.
