Anagama West - a pyromaniac's dream
Greetings. I present this website to all people who love woodfired pottery. What follows is a short little story about an anagama - it's construction, it's firing, and the people who helped bring it all together. Indeed, no anagama can ever be a solo experience and in my case, three people in particular have enabled me to realize a long standing dream.

Andrew Walford
Andrew Walford lives in Kwazulu Natal with his wife Leanda and four children halfway between Durban and Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. Andrew draws much inspiration for his decoration from the many trees and birds in his environment. He works in the Japanese tradition with thick chun glazes sifted by hand from wood ash, colours of rich resonant tenmokus, fatty whites and shades of celadon, then decorating with brushwork. He fires to a temperature of 1380 degrees Celsius.

Bonita Cohn - ANAGAMA MAMA
My art is born, expressed in clay. Timeless, subtle, useful and beautiful.
In clay are my feelings; into the deep center I pull: it becomes a bowl.
To make pottery is to give form to what I love.
Through my bare hands the body and soul meet; Spirit in a vessel, tried by kiln fire.
A collaboration of the four elements: earth, air, fire, water.
