Early childhood camping holidays on the East Cape of New Zealand in the 1960s and 70s gave me a love of the coast. Forty years later, I am still inspired by the beauty and intensity of the NZ coastline. I return to the coast at every opportunity and choose to live in the seaside suburb of Lyall Bay.

The need to create has been with me since childhood. In the early years I was a knitter, sewer and home based craft maker. In 2006 I began study at the Learning Connexion, Wellington, completing a Diploma of Art & Creativity (Level 5) in 2008.

I have two themes in my current body of work. Firstly, hand built ceramic vessels and sculptures. These ceramics have been the subject of 3 solo exhibitions and have also been widely accepted into group exhibitions. My next solo exhibition is at the Academy Galleries in September 2010. I am a current member of Wellington Potters and use their facilities to fire my work, both in electric and raku kilns.

My second body of work are simple bold contemporary pieces, such as the piece you will see in headland sculpture on the gulf 2011. These objects are often based on recollections of childhood activities or remembered objects. My mission with these works is to evoke a smile of recognition, an I used to do that response. This creates an instant sense of belonging for the viewer. The objects used are universal and familiar, strong and contemporary where scale is vital. These works are raw, honest and larger than life.
